Cairns Showgrounds - Cairns, Australia
By CARLA
Silverchair first came to Latin America in 1996 (Buenos Aires, Argentina), and has never returned. Don't you think 10 years of waiting is just enough? Well, I and my dearest friend, who reintroduced them to me, do.
Kimmy (my Aussie mate) was going to the show in Cairns, Queensland; I desperately asked her to take her cell phone and she gently accepted. You can imagine how "digital" the connection and sound were through that tiny cell microphone, and to make matters worse, I was sitting at my apartment here in Santiago, Chile pressing my earphones against my head as hard as I could. Blessed internet phone programs.
Zambrano (my friend here) was also listening to the concert on his cell phone somewhere in some beach over the Pacific Chilean coast. It was around 5 in the morning for us. Despite all that hassle we could enjoy the songs and the insane mass. We could even recognize some of Johns's famous on stage monologues. Is it true that Cairns have the best weed you've ever had? Or at least that's what I understood.
That was a sublime and rather bizarre experience considering that it was actually the first time we heard the band "live". We actually can do you a favour, if you could at least consider thinking about a tour in South America. Is that too much to ask?
I can't give you any more juicy details about that concert (perhaps Kimmy should write something about it) as we could hardly hear the drum set or the other instruments but Johns's voice and some guitar. Anyhow, it felt warm inside to think that they were playing in that exact moment in their homeland and that we were so far away enjoying it.
Thanks for doing great tours after all these years. It's incredible. Thanks Kimmy for understanding and doing a big favour to a couple of freaks. We really want you guys to get funky on our ass.
