Entertainment Centre - Newcastle, Australia

By PHIL

Living in Brisbane, my girlfriend and I decided we’d fly to Newcastle instead for the opening night of the tour.

We spent a great couple of days in the Hunter Valley, and topped it off with a couple of days with an old school mate and his family in Newcastle, and we all headed off to the opening night of the Across the Great Divide Tour.

We walked in just as Young Modern Station was kicking off, and we had great seats perched up above the stage getting a great view of the boys in action.  The highlight for me was how great Daniel’s voice had recovered and it absolutely soared especially on my favourite track on the new album, Those Thieving Birds, which sounded even more special live.

Powderfinger also put on a ripping show, and I got to meet Jon Coghill the next day back in Brisbane when the band flew back on the same flight as us.

To both bands, thanks for being part of a great week.  We may come back for the final show in Newcastle as well.
