Silverchair has made an extraordinary showing in a list of Australia's 100 Favourite Albums of all time. The list was compiled by the ABC television and radio networks over recent months and the top 10 entries were part of a TV special that aired last night.
Three of the Newcastle trio's four discs made the top 100. 2002's Diorama was #24, 1999's Neon Ballroom ranked #47 and 1995's "frogstomp" came in at #96.
Not only did Silverchair receive more nominations than any other Australian artist but they had more albums make the list than greats such as Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, INXS and Crowded House. The only other artists to receive 3 entries were U2 and Radiohead and the only artist to have more than 3 albums make this top 100 poll was The Beatles!
"Diorama" narrowly missed out on pipping Midnight Oil's classic "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" as the favourite Australian album of all time
