The band’s epic first single, “Straight Lines”, from the “Young Modern” album, has already peaked at #1 in their homeland Australia. It has also been added to most American modern rock stations including KROQ and Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles, New York's KROCK, Chicago's Q101, KNRK Portland, and 99X in Atlanta. It’s also among the most requested songs on several of these stations.
In great news for fans of the Aussie trio, “Straight Lines” is now available on iTunes! The single also includes “English Garden” which features a special vocal appearance by Judith Durham of 60’s pop sensations “The Seekers.”
In other big U.S. news, Silverchair will make their first ever appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" when they perform "Straight Lines" there on Tuesday July 10. They will then perform the song on the CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" on the night of Thursday July 12 (12:35AM ET/PT). Daniel Johns also flew to New York this week to film a major feature for MTV News.
Silverchair are one of the most acclaimed and successful bands in Australian music history. They have had more #1 albums in their homeland than any other Aussie band (they have enjoyed five chart toppers, Midnight Oil had four #1’s, while AC/DC and INXS each had three). Their music has evolved hugely since their teenage years and they’ve now grown into 27 year old critical darlings – a feat that seemed highly unlikely back in the mid-90’s.
The band kicks off their North American tour on Friday July 13 with shows on the U.S. west coast. Many dates on that tour are already sold out – including San Francisco, Vancouver, Atlanta and Boston - which is an extraordinary result given that it's Silverchair's first visit to all of those markets since 1999.
For your Silverchair fix before these shows, go to iTunes and get yourself “Straight Lines”.
