We are very happy to report that MTV announced SILVERCHAIR as the recipients of the first ever Video Vanguard Award at the 2007 MTV Australia Video Music Awards.

The Video Vanguard Award recognises musicians who have had a profound effect on the MTV culture, and have proven to be inspirational to millions of MTV viewers – it is the equivalent to a lifetime achievement award. In the past the award has been presented to The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Madonna.

“It feels a bit weird to be getting kind of a ‘lifetime achievement’ award at 27 years of age but we’re happy to take it”, chuckled Silverchair bass player Chris Joannou. “We actually always used to hate making videos back in the day so they should really be giving this award to all those poor directors we’ve worked with over the years. But MTV have offered the gong to us for some reason so of course we’re happy to step in now and take all the credit for their hard work.”

The awards show, will be held on April 29 at Sydney’s Acer Arena. SILVERCHAIR will also be performing at the awards ceremony. You can watch the show in Australia on Foxtel, Austar, Optus and Channel 10.

There is also still time to vote for SILVERCHAIR in the MTV Australia Video Music Awards in the categories of;
