I hope it has some new information, not just rehashing old stuff.

Well the title suggests that it has new information to offer...one can only hope. I'm also looking forward to seeing more backstage and behind the making of YM footage. I know most people don't care for that record, but it's still one of my favorites. It's been on heavy rotation lately

Hopefully the title isn't a gimmick to get viewers. And hopefully the questions under the video weren't teasers, and then they just have vague references to them in the film.

I like the title as well, it pretty much sums up my sentiments lol. I can't believe there's been nothing since that amazing TEDx performance a year ago. C'mon Johns, I'm dying here...the current state of music is at an all time low imo.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is an email conversation I had tonight with someone from Hackett Films..

Ok, thanks for your time. Hopefully things will change soon. Good luck!

Hi

Their management own some of the rights and it's not complete. We want funding to complete it. I'm sure the fans would love it but it's not something we can afford to do especially without their management's agreement. I totally understand your frustration, it's ours too!

Cheers

Doesn't Hackett Films own the rights? I'm guessing you do (and have the band's permission) if you're trying to air it on television. Couldn't you upload the documentary on your site or youtube, just for the fans? Sorry, I'm not trying to be a pain, a lot of people are really interested in seeing this and like me they just came across the teaser, so they're under the impression it's something they'll be able to watch or own soon.

Oh ok...I'm confused. I thought the teaser was recently put up on your site because I just found about 2-3 weeks ago

If ever! We did a lot of filming that unfortunately hasn't really gone anywhere unless we can find someone interested in making it happen. Sorry!

Cheers

Hi there

That doco is still in development waiting for potential broadcast interest.

Cheers

this is also what I was told when I asked why the teaser was put up on their website...

It's there in the development section so we can show potential investors that we have footage. Sorry for the confusion!

Cheers
Wendy

Man, that was a bullshit teaser for nothing. Enjoy your 5 plus minutes of footage :x :(
Unfortunately, it simply comes down to money (or lack thereof) A lot of projects never see the light of day for this reason. More than likely the reason we've yet to see My Mind's Own Melody.

Too funny. I was just thinking to myself, "I shouldn't get my hopes up about the chair' documentary thing, because everyone from the band is now too broke to put anything out".

It's true. Even Ben's solo album, which has been done for a while and we keep hearing about, seems to be taking extra extra long. I think it is unquestionably a financial issue. That seems like the most likely project that will see the light of day, but even so, I'm not getting my hopes up. And I don't think we'll ever get another full album from Daniel Johns again. With Chris, it's not even a question.

Silverchair and its members seem to truly be gone.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that the band was broke, my comment about money was referring to the entertainment industry as a whole. I don't want to assume that the reason we haven't heard anything from Ben or Daniel yet is because they don't have money, even if that were the case...I wouldn't write them off or suggest their careers are finished.

There could be several reasons for neither one of them putting any new material out...constant speculation, high expectations and public scrutiny would make anyone want to escape the limelight for a while. Can't say I blame them, especially Daniel.

Daniel's film thing MIGHT be about a lack of money, but I really doubt the lack of material coming out is financiall related at all. Think about it: If Daniel wanted to just release music he had written he could do it via the Internet. We all know he doesn't like touring or doing press, those are obligations he was forced to take part in to please his label and make back the money they fronted him. He has his own studio, he could make a recording with no interference and do exactly what he wants with it. And Ben has undertaken 11 videos with Robert Hambling for his album. If money was an issue I can't see him being so ambitious with its promotion.
While I am starving for new material like the rest of you, I can understand the guys not being in any hurry whatsoever to become part of the music "industry" again, they've been doing it for over half of their lives! I am sure they have tons of music that we will never hear, and until one of them dies and their vaults are raped liked Nirvana's, we will just have to wait.

It's interesting to observe that one year now since the band announced their indefinite hiatus, the most active board members here are on the North American continent. We are hardcore like that, eh?

Funny you should bring that up, I was just commenting to someone a couple of days ago how everyone left on the board is either from the states or Canada. Like you said, North American continent. It almost seems like Australians (for the most part) have turned their backs on them, hence no interest from anyone to purchase and broadcast this documentary. It seems like even the papers have lost interest as well. How quickly the tides turn :?

I'll be here as long as the board is up, I still believe the chair will make music together again one day. If not, I'll be anxiously awaiting for anything projects they work on individually.

WE ARE DEFINITELY HARDCORE! 8)
