In 2007, when YM was released i was in shock, because i thought the music was crap (i´m still thinking that). I was so disappointed. That was sad because frogstomp, freak show, neon ballroom and mainly diorama were important in my connection with my principal passion: The Rock music.
And now, when i listen the music of "My mind´s own melody" i can hear the Daniel who created Diorama. That is a good thing.
They made a short film version of the story last year that is going to be sampled at select Australian film festivals during the second half of this year. The actual featured film will probably not go into production until 2014.
^ Right. Five years is a long time. Since 2007, we've been told there would be a new Dissociatives album and Silverchair album, and we also know Dan has collaborated with Luke Steele (never released) and now this film score, which has seemed to fall flat. The state of affairs in music totally sucks, and I could really use some new work from DJ. Why hasn't he at least released 1 full album of some kind since 'Young Modern'?
He's had to have recorded songs on his own. Maybe he's hesitant about a full on solo career? He's always either been in a band or in a partnership, collaborating. Or maybe he hasn't got the funds.
But on the other hand, if he was as confident as Morrissey he'd just find a new band and make more music. It worked for Moz. /shrug
Hmm... Daniel Johns has hit rock bottom. I never thought this day would come, he's done stuff outside of Silverchair before (The Dissociatives) and the non-Silverchair work he did was some of the best. He's completely lost all creative juices it seems - and funding. It might have something to do with breaking up the band and reckless drinking, being a douchebag in general etc.
I was anticipating a soundtrack release similar to what the Beatles did with Yellow Submarine, have a "songtrack" album to release on its own - which is also the music of the film.
If you think about it all his work (since he has had any real direction, nb onwards) has been born out of negativity (not always negative music). Maybe we won't see him fully embrace music unless thats all he has in his life?
A friend messaged me about it...so then I asked another friend, followed up by questioning Piers Grove...via the contact information on the film website...
