i'm with you betsy, if he is singing about havin the hots for a teen thats not cool, he's 31!! Machina collecta would be ok as a bit of a crazy kinda nothing song but to be totally honest, i hope neither of these songs make the album. None of them are very well written musically or lyrically. The drums and bass are pretty cool tho. Save the electro for the disso's!

hmm the last two comments have sorta rubbed me up the wrong way so i feel like i need to respond to them.

betsy, forgive me if this is not what you're suggesting... but it almost sounds as though you're waiting for him to suffer from an ailment/depression again to write the music you see as being 'emotional'. i think every song daniel has written has emotion in it - just different emotions. we still don't know exactly what either of the songs mean... i think there's a lot more to 16 than we think - another reason why i love the song.

and evele... i dont see how these songs are even remotely close to being 'electro'? nor do they sound anything like the dissociatives. i find machina collecta surprisingly rocky... gives me a bit of a wolfmother vibe (don't know why... maybe the vocals?).

Very well said, Narc and I completely agree with everything :) It's what I've been saying all along, especially since he's being very "vague" as usual, but more so about "16" . I believe he purposely doesn't want anyone to know exactly what he's singing about...I just don't believe Daniel Johns to be that simple minded...besides, you were actaully there!

i guess on second thought, it isn't exactly 'electro' as such....maybe it's the FX that give it that vibe. But i guess YM had flourishes of sythns and vox FX. Your right too about 'Machina', it is pretty rock....I guess we'll just have to wait and see if these songs change or even make it onto the album!
Also, i agreed with betsy that IF '16' was about that, then thats not cool. I think it's the lyrics along with what he announced before playing the song at one of the GTM shows ( something along the lines of "this songs about when you love someone very much, but you think you might've crossed a line...morally") that make it sound a bit seedy. Maybe he's singing about a stripper in a school girl outfit that made him feel 16 again, a bit of a role play senario...

Anyway, i am still very much looking foward to the album and i'm sure it will turn out amazing as always!

I agree, I've always felt from the beginning there's more to 16 than "meets the eye". And I have the feeling Machina Collecta might be the "fun sexy rocky" song on the album, and a possible future live favourite .
And yes, Daniel Johns is anything but simple. I'm very sure he's fucking with us as always.

Yeah, and it stays true to the whole "controversial" theme...definitely like it! 8) Let's send it in to management or the band and take credit for it as a collaborative effort

If anyone else tries to steal this idea, we'll just refer back to this post :P

I'm with Sixteen. It's really catchy and I think the use of the vocoder is better in that song than machina. Althoiugh I think they're both really good! Can't wait for the next few months to pass!!!

I have a strange suspicion 16 will become a B-side and Machina Collecta will be rearranged, with additions.
