i didn't know until NB that tomorrow wasn't pearl jam. really. i've always been influenced by my older brothers as far as music goes, so i was 8 years old playing nirvana in my tape player, or manson when i was 10. i stumbled upon NB through my brother's friend and totally loved it, and then heard more of frogstomp and thought it was groovy. the real obsession started a few years ago when i looked up the ATN video because i'm a pretty big guy pearce fan. that was it for me. i sang it for days, bought diorama and fell in love. it increased with YM and hearing the dissos. now i'm flat out crazy. :D

we're all a little crazy around here so you will fit right in ;) welcome, sleepless.

Well I once saw this immaculate, really pristine chair, so I made love to it...

I am ashamed to admit, that my chair love began thanks to the drummer of this band...

Short Stack... I was friends with the guy on the right in high school (bradie) as some of you would know, he told me in class that his dad bought this new album Diorama and that it was apparently amazing, and I was kind of like "Oh yeah, I think I've heard of it".

Later that year, I saw Silverchair featured on Rove Live (2002?)... was very impressed plus given what bradie told me about the album being so good, so my mum offered to buy Diorama for me for christmas (she was equally impressed) - after which I began buying all their other CD's and that's basically my downward spiral into silverchairism.

Ok, Newbie here as well... And agreed - great topic to start posting...

I'm "familiar" with Chair since they became a hit here in Brazil, mid-nineties, I guess. But two or three years ago, a friend of mine introduced me to Diorama and I immediately felt for the album.

And then, bad things happened round this time and it was kinda hard to separate the songs from my "own personal hell" (i kinda have a "soundtrack of my life...), so, I really had to stop listening, otherwise, I'd go downhill!

No. That's not the end. There is a happy ending. About a month ago, I rediscovered the pleasure of hearing Chair and the whole bad vibe it brought me in the past disappeared. And it's being awesome getting to know other songs, or enjoying the ones I didnt like much. Everyday, a new song, a new discovery. Lovin' it

Hi all,
This is probably a good place for 1st post. I've always seen this band as having a huge amount of potential but they needed time. I actually think it was unfortunate that they were popular so young. I remember that from about 1999 I didn't listen to much music at all. I was just sick of guitars, drums and fake toughness in music - just the same thing all the time. But when I heard Paris Circa by Dissos - I sat up and paid attention! I've paid attention ever since. YM is kinda awkward but full of great ideas. I realised that the awkwardness was actually one of the bands greatest virtues. I felt that as they were getting older they were also reaching that potential. This is a funny point because, at the moment they are not fashionable. Here in Australia, many people lump them in with Powderfinger - just because they've been around for a while. At the moment, I feel like they've only just started. Silverchair have more music and more punk in their little fingers than many younger, more fashionable bands wear on their sleeves! I only like a handful of their songs - but its all recent like, We're not lonely, Barbarella, Sleep All Day.
When I heard those songs, I realised that YM should have been co produced by Scott Horscroft or Chris Townend. I really like where they are headed. And their next album should be called GUT.

Til next.
