Shorthand??!!! You'd never be accepted in the 1800's! :P

Maybe not, but trying doing my job when you write in full sentences and full words. :P "I'm sorry, ma'am, I know you were just assaulted, but can you please slow down as I write this? Now, repeat the description again, and SLOWLY this time..." And people speak much quicker when they're freaked. It's all about getting the info down as quickly as possible. 8)

yeah, I asked my Mum about teaching me to do this, she laughed and said it took her about 1 yr to learn. (mind you, that would have been about 40 yrs ago in India?)

I don't do any kind of official shorthand, just my own personal style.  It's funny, because we keep our notes at work in case there is something we don't put in reports online, but my boss would never be able to decipher anyone's notes anyway... We all have our own shorthand and we only put down enough to remind us for when we do the reports. My notes, for example, he'd see a mess of seemingly random words and letter with symbols and arrows thrown in.

My boyfriend moved here from New Orleans in January and he always had a real one, so I wanted him to feel as at home as possible up here so we are starting a tradition of real trees too. I can't decorate the house much because I have two cats and they like to wreck everything, so it's just the tree and the stockings on the wall we decorated for the four of us.

Gorgeous!!! :) We can't have real trees... Or breakable decorations... Because of my housemate's kitty. He climbs our tree. He gets up the thing in literally less than a second. He's declawed in the front, so it's pretty impressive! He knocks off a lot of decorations and branches, though, and if we had a real tree he'd have sap stuck all through his super long, fine hair. Would NOT be fun.

I was terrified of having my cats near a tree too, but surprisingly it has been okay. They've pulled a few ornaments off but that's it. There have barely been any needles on the floor and no sap - I wonder if this specific type of tree was a good choice with them? It's a Scottish something or other.

My cat somehow decided this was the year to knock over the tree....twice. I think she felt pretty bad. Maybe next year I should get a real tree, since it would be heavier and more difficult to body-check onto the floor.

It's not funny that the cat knocked your tree down, but how you described it.

 Fluff and I were playing the other day, and at one point he launched himself out of the tree at me and hit the wall, knocking a large mirror off the wall. He broke the frame, luckily not the mirror. My housemate was NOT impressed, and her mother was terrified; she saw it happen and said that decorations were flying off the tree, the tree was shaking, and BAM! The mirror fell. :?

Thanks for posting the pics Art! :D I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy now ... in a Christmas kind of way. Hopefully we'll get some good photos of our tree and decorations this weekend. It's been freezing and we can't seem to get unwrapped from the blankets long enough to do it! It's supposed to be a bit warmer for the weekend. We were planning on taking some photos in front of the tree with Guinness and Gillies too. I have my office Christmas party tomorrow, so I'll be making rather merry! :P

My tree is black (I'm not an emo, btw) and has a koala on top instead of a star/fairy.
