He's refering to holding on tight to something - love or the thought attaining it maybe?

If you keep losing sleep over other lovers
If you keep losing me you're gonna be bored!
[pay them with love, cause money is hollow.. ]

i don't need no time to say
there's no changing yesterday
- straight lines
POWDERCHAIR ROCKS!!!!!

You brighten my life like a polystyrene hat
But it melts in the sun like a life without love
And I've waited for you so I'll keep holding on
Without You

WARNING: NOVEL AHEAD

Breathing from a hole in my lung, I had no one
But faces in front of me, racing through the void in my head
To find traces of a good luck academy

This means people around him helped him to become who he is, and kept him going.

Sparks ignite and trade them for thought about no one
And nothing in particular washed the sickened socket and drove
Resent nothing, there's goodwill inside of me

It's about his illness and recovery. "Washed the sickened socket and drove," is like, the arthritis left him (sockets) and he was able to move (well) again.

Wake me up, lower the fever, walking in a straight line

"Wake me up, lower the fever," seems to me to describe the gradual loss of the arthritis. "Walking in a straight line," is obvious.

Set me on fire in the evening, and everything will be fine

The fire seems to mean something like, "destroy the bad emotions -- erase my regret." "Evening" would refer to the closing of his old life -- now he's living a new chapter.

Waking up strong in the morning, walking in a straight line

See above -- "Waking up strong in the morning," refers to his new energy in life.

Lately I'm a desperate believer, but walking in a straight line

Meaning is obvious. :P

Something that I'll never forget, I felt desperate

Probably, desperate to recover.

And stuck to the marrow, invisible to everyone else
I'm a sex change, and a damsel with no heroine

Just a metaphor for the then-probable divorce (heroine), but him still continuing on in life.

I don't need to time to say
There's no changing yesterday
If we keep talking and I keep walking in straight lines

Means don't waste time on bad things.

That's what I thought, but he said the song was about him missing Australia. :? So maybe I'm wrong about Straight Lines entirely.

So far I like the lyrics on YM much much better than on any prior silverchair album.

I feel like Daniel's finally figuring out how to write interesting sounding lyrics instead of clumsy metaphors (yeah I know, many of you think he's a total genius and will find that offensive - oh well!)

so I actually quite like a lot of the lines. I guess TTB stands out, but a lot of them are good. That being said I wish I hadn't read this thread and found out about the "fun retro look" in Insomnia, I hadn't listened to that one very carefully and now I'm going to roll my eyes every time it gets to that part. I guess it can't be perfect. :)
