I just got in from my second show of the Young Modern tour of North America. What a night we had in Boston! It was a very, very small venue, which was awesome. Daniel's voice still has a rasp to it at certain parts because of the laryngitis, but as he said, it makes him sound "sexy".

Unlike the New York crowd, Boston didn't know much of the Young Modern stuff, although 'Straight Lines' got a big response. Some people only went for the old stuff. At one point halfway through the set, some guy yelled out "play some old shit already!" and Daniel replied "I'm about to you impatient fuck" and then they launched into 'The Door'. It was pretty classic and everyone laughed at the guy.

After the show, I spotted Brityn from the board (the girl with the Tuna tattoo). I didn't know it, but apparently she's been to a ton of the American shows this tour with a friend of hers, who I also met. They were both very sweet and polite and we chatted a bit after the gig before snapping a photo. Hopefully, they both get home safe.

I'll be posting a full review of my Young Modern weekend in a few days. Until then, here is tonights set list. The only part of the set I'm unsure of is Straight Lines and The Door. They were back to back but I can't remember which one is first...here goes...

Young Modern Station
The Man That Knew Too Much
Reflections Of A Sound
Emotion Sickness
The Greatest View
Ana's Song (Open Fire)
Insomnia
Low
Straight Lines
The Door
Mind Reader
The Lever
------Encore-------
If You Keep Losing Sleep
Freak

I'm hoping the guys hit the east coast again in November and Daniel's voice is good enough to play a longer set. I'm hoping to hear 'Tuna In The Brine' and 'Those Thieving Birds' next time I see them live. Great show guys!
Predictability is the enemy of interesting.

i was at the boston show last night, it was amazing!
i was the crazy bitch in the homemade YM shirt, rockin my ass off:
Image

one lady who runs the paul mac/daniel johns myspace was there. she was right behind me (so 1 row back from the stage) and she took LOADS of pics which should be posted on there soon. :) and Brittyn, i recognized you in line about 15 people ahead of me :)

the openers were decent but unfortunately they were looking for a lot of crowd reaction and they weren't gonna get it... ah well, that seems to happen a lot in boston.

the boys seemed to be in great spirits, chris was moving around a lot which is great. dan was being playful which was wonderful. ben looked happy too. paul didn't seem to be spazzing out as much as usual... hmm.

dan talked to us a bit. he told us about the subs they had been eating haha. i screamed for the koala joke but i don't think he heard me, and he didn't tell it. someone yelled "birthday!" and dan said "what? fruitcake?!?" but he figured it out and we all sang Happy Birthday for Chris's 24th haha. i loved the part when dan said "i'm recovering from laryngitis, so my voice is extra sexy". near the end of the show dan threw water on chris and ben and they laughed, it was cute and playful. he also threw his water into the audience, of course. dan played up to the crowd a bunch by coming over to the edges of the stage to play solos, and by laying on paul's keyboards . dan danced around a bunch too.

it's true that not everyone knew the new stuff; at one point ben caught me singing along to a YM song and smiled :D i was dancing around a lot (hey, dan said YM is a record to dance to, right?) but it was pretty packed so not too many people could move much.

i went with a friend who isn't too familiar with SC and she thought they were great! she loved dan's showmanship.

i'm sure i'll think of a bunch more to recap but that's all i can think of for now :)

oh yeah, about the songs - everyone was right about insomnia. it's my least favorite YM song, but it's FANTASTIC live. i was actually really happy with the setlist, i loved hearing YM, although I was disappointed that Daniel couldn't do my favorite song (Tuna). Everyone went nuts for Straight Lines. i knew they were gonna play Freak last and honestly I wasn't really looking forward to hearing that song, but the second it came on I was LOVING it... it just rocked so hard.

it seemed like dan hit all his high notes and even threw in some extra ones in random places  i was very impressed with his voice.

i was happy dan didn't wear the eye-patch or the turban :) just the headband. and the green jacket from The Sauce interview.

haha, i feel like a celebrity, all these people recognizing me at shows! it was nice meeting all the sc fans, and that homemade YM shirt is awesome. i saw that but didn't recognize you as somebody from the board. this show could've been the best if the audience knew more of the more recent sc songs. it was an extremely small venue, i was shocked that they played there. in NY they played a venue that holds 4k people but this one only held maybe 400. it honestly felt like it only held about half of that though, because the other half was around the sides and higher up. daniel kept teasing them saying they were VIP (yeah right). daniel wasn't AS playful at this show, and most likely because of the morons there. i was only 1 person away from him and was singing alll the songs and he'd hold eye contact with me for a good 20 secs throughout different parts of the show. my friend was nervous being that close 'cause she'll mess up on the lyrics if she sees daniel looking at her, haha.

the stage was only a few inches above my knees, and there was no barricade. so VERY intimate, it felt like we were going to see some local band in a bar. before the show, paul and adam recognized my friend and me from the other shows and waved and said hi. i thought ben and chris would too because they did at others but not this time, oh well. daniel snuck in a door around the corner which nobody knew about.

ALSO, there was this guy who was at least 40 who had just bought the frogstomp and freak show cds (we saw them in the plastic bag from the music store) who took them out when paul mac showed up. i was cracking up at this idiot! paul didn't sign them. i guess he got ben and chris to sign them though and people in line were shouting that he wasn't a fan and he'd just bought the cds and he's going to sell them so don't sign it!!!! i asked him later if he was a fan and he said yes but he doesn't have YM yet because he can't find it in the store (uh, use the internets?).

this was a great end for my sc trip, i saw them 5 times on the tour, and the last 4 were 4 days in a row. i'm exhausted, i don't know how the band does it. i slept in until 2pm today after only getting 3 hrs of sleep almost every night for the past 4 days!
I have to return some videotapes.

haha Brittyn i've been waiting for you to weigh in on this show bc i know you have a lot to compare it against :)

i was surprised they played the tiny Paradise too, mostly smaller bands play there. i honestly wonder if the Paradise misrepresents themselves to bands or something, because I saw Ken Andrews (from Failure) play in their SMALLER room this year, and he seemed baffled as to how he got booked in such a tiny place. all his other shows were at bigger places... with better crowds.
daniel wasn't AS playful at this show, and most likely because of the morons there.

yeah, i hear a lot of artists complain that the boston crowd is dead so i was kind of expecting that. i heard a bunch of kids on the train complain that they didn't play enough old stuff. they were like "i don't like their new stuff!" Sad  why doesn't anyone expect them to concentrate on the new record?

ahaha i was wondering what that creep was doing! my friend just figured he was a pedophile out trolling for some sexy rocker kids haha.

holy hi guys.
*waves enthusiastically*
so i guess i have been on here before, probably A VERY LONG TIME AGO (yeah, i just checked, 5 years ago! :? ) and it took me forever to figure out my name and password but i finally did it.

so i was at the NYC & boston dates and i recognize a bunch of you.
brittyn, you were talking to a bunch of friends of mine that i think you met in philly.
and schmifty, I COULD NOT STOP LOOKING AT YOUR HOME MADE SHIRT I LOVE IT SO DAMN MUCH. high five.

i don't really know what to say. but i'm sure i'll end up blabbing.
i'm running around in a daze because the 2 shows were so amazing.
i don't want to return to real life yet!

DawnOfANewTime wrote:The only part of the set I'm unsure of is Straight Lines and The Door. They were back to back but I can't remember which one is first...here goes...

you were right, i grabbed the set list after the set. :D
someone offered to buy it off me? PSHT YEAH RIGHT.
i was so happy with the sets, i figured it would be mostly new stuff and a few older songs. i didn't expect it to be that perfect.
i'm SO GLAD they did the door. i fucking live for that song.
and emotion sickness is the point in NYC where it hit me that i was seeing silverchair. the band that changed my life when i was 8. and i broke down. SO BEAUTIFUL. jesus.

DawnOfANewTime wrote: I'm hoping the guys hit the east coast again in November and Daniel's voice is good enough to play a longer set.

is this going to happen? i haven't heard of this. i would freak out hardcore.
i never thought i would have the chance to see silverchair, nevermind TWICE in small clubs, once in THE TINIEST CLUB EVER (paradise). and maybe possibly again?? phew.

GreatBrittyn wrote:i was only 1 person away from him and was singing alll the songs and he'd hold eye contact with me for a good 20 secs throughout different parts of the show.

this was the best feeling ever. my heart swelled every time i held eye contact with any of the guys. they were really great about that, i thought, recognizing the fans that were obviously dedicated.
i love dan's playfulness with the guys. i had no idea what to expect, and was thrilled when he was so personable on stage.

saying hello to chris, ben and paul before the show was pretty much a dream come true. they were so nice and fucking.... just. amazing. hahaha.
i had kind of bothered ben when he came off the bus in the morning, saying hello and asking for a photo, but he politely denied me telling me that if he had been showered and fully awake he would have been all for it, but definately later. i wasn't expecting him to really mean it. hahaha. when he was on his way into the club later with chris and stopped for some photos and autographs, he apologized to me for "being in zombieland earlier" and hugged me. and duh, paul is just the man. nicest guy ever, i think.

and bryttn, i definatlely know what you mean that you don't know how the band does it. i don't have a damned clue either. i feel like i've just been hit by a bus and i didn't even hit as many of the gigs as you! though i did do 4 shows in 4 days, with not any sleep. just not all sc.

so,
if any of you want to figure out if you saw me, i was front row, pretty much right in front of dan rocking my ass off and yelling and being a ridiculous fool just having the time of my damned life. i have pink hair.
i was also rocking ass to the openers, we are the fury with a bunch of friends of mine who were SOLELY THERE for them. they are close friends of ours for a few years and i just love them to pieces.
and also whoever wants to myspace me, do it, just let me know who you are :D :
myspace.com/theamyjane.

hahaha, so much for not knowing what to say.

<33

ps: i took a shitload of photos at both shows that i'll upload and link soon :D

Thank you SOOO much!! It was such a pain in the ass to make that thing haha. I was really hoping the guys would notice it, it worked on Ben and Chris, i'm not sure about Dan. When Dan was so close in front of me that I could've reached out and touched him, it was VERY hard not to do so  Thank god I realized how rude/disrespectful that would've been.

oh yah i definitely saw you! you were rockin out! good for you!

yeah i noticed you guys having so much fun with WATF, and I saw you guys knew all the words...that was great that the openers had fans there to support them!

Pleeeease do! :) The paulmac/danieljohns myspace lady put a bunch of pics up :) i know she took way more than she posted though... i wonder if they didn't come out well :(

also i forgot to mention another highlight of the show when dan said "this song is dedicated to ben and chris, who i love sooo much... NOT in a gay way though."

Thank you SOOO much! It was such a pain but I listened to lots of YM to get through my three days of wrestling with paint, freezer paper and masking tape... haha. Poor Chris, his little square got all blacked-out looking under the funny lights at the show. Doesn't it just figure that would happen to poor little Chris? d'aww

YAAAY! Oh my goodness i didn't realize Dan's eye was still bad! I thought he was just being a whiner on The Sauce! I thought, oh please Daniel I'm sure it's fine... Makeup, my ass! Ohh poor baby it's still marked up :( Holy shit you got some amaaazing shots! You should definitely post about a billion of these up on Sexy Silverchair :)

oh YAY you caught a shot of Dan in front of me!
Image
YOU ROCK!!!!

Isn't Dan just tiny? I mean I know he's not short or anything, he just has... small proportions? Very narrow hips and all. I just wanted to run up there and hug his skinny little self. A long time ago I read he was 6'3" or something and I just always believed that, didn't find out it was way off until a few weeks ago, so it was very strange to see him in person more like 5'10" tops. in all his tinyness :)

now i need to go to another show REALLY BAD
