I signed up to adopt two three month old kittens from the humane society today. they are as good as mine, they just have to get neutered, microchipped, and so on. :D I went and spent an hour with them today in the cat play room. I can't wait to get them home! :D

Yay Krissy! :D I can't wait to see them! Good for you for adopting too. So many animals need good homes right now. Damn economy. I still can't imagine giving up my pet because of being short on money though. I'd sell an organ first.

I think adoption is such a good thing to do too! I can't stand the thought of all the cats that are euthanized each year in shelters. My mom gave me crap over the mere IDEA of adopting one cat, so I'm just not going to inform her that I'm going for two. After all, she shouldn't really have ANY say over what I do with my time or money, but when I talk about missing having pets, she's like "you just need to hurry up and have kids. that's all pets do anyway--fill that void"---which is absolutely NOT true. Pets can be an addition to family, and some people do have pets instead of children, but I don't believe that is the sole purpose of a pet   . there will be a day when I have both but it sure isn't going to happen on somebody else's time clock! Right now I want a pet and I lucked into finding two. They're adorable and they are brothers and I just couldn't stand the idea of separating them. She tried to argue that I could put my adoption fee money towards a car fund or something more "practical" but I dunno.....I'm happy without a car and I miss having pets and they are affordable, so why not? I can't wait to start taking their pictures and spoiling them rotten. :D Ever heard of polydactyl cats? That's what they are. :D They have extra toes on their front paws, and it simply looks as if they have little hands instead of regular paws. they appear to have thumbs. :D

here's an example of one:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3009/257 ... b1557e.jpg

My boyfriend said that it makes sense for my cats to have human like hands. They'll be good slappers, like their mama.

I guess technically it's a deformity, but people also say that humans with two different colored eyes have a deformity and I think that is gorgeous. :D

Yes, I had a polydactyl cat growing up! We named him Mudflaps! Your boyfriend is right. They will take after their (ass) slapping mama!

We think about getting Guinness a little buddy sometimes, but we're not sure. He loves other animals but he's such a spoiled brat, I'm not sure he'd like having another dog or cat around all the time. I don't like the statement that pets fill the void of having kids either. I'd have them or not, regardless of having a pet. I have had pets since I was born and I can't imagine life without one. I think pets are a very important part of a family and great for kids as well as it teaches them discipline.

I feel the same way! And I also can't imagine life without a pet. We had several pets in Oklahoma but it was such a drastic move and for one, dogs aren't allowed in our apartment, so we had to give our dogs to our families. And I had some outdoor cats that I knew would be happier staying outdoors, so they are with family as well. I have two sisters, one got one cat, the other got two, and my parents got a dog and my boyfriend's parents got the other. Everybody is thriving at their new homes so I am at peace with our decision to not make them go through such a huge adjustment, even though I miss them. :( I know they are doing fine, i get regular pictures and updates and when i went home to visit, I got to see everybody. :D I'll be going to visit again sometime after christmas so I'll get to see them again, so like I said, I feel happy with how it all turned out. But here without anything has been a bit lonely for me, so I think it's time to get the first Washington pets.

I considered getting a bunny but when I went to browse the bunnies, the two I looked at kept humping each other and it was hilarious yet awkward and it was a wooly rabbit, so it was literally molting NON stop and I decided I couldn't handle that much pet hair around.

I can't wait to get them here and get my camera going! they are hilarious. They are already named through the shelter, but it's so funny because they have such big boy names, lol. i won't reveal the names just yet, but I promise, you'll have a laugh at how mature the names are for these silly silly cats.

I'm jealous krissy!!! Kittens are SO MUCH FUN! I wish cats would always stay that size, lol

I've been wanting to get a dog for a long time & will definitely be getting an adult from a shelter. Puppies are adorable, but WAY too hyper and untamed for my liking  I want a nice, calm, sweet adult dog. He can even be ugly, ion't cuhr :P

awww, i wish you lived here! there are some super sweet and adorable (and by adorable, I mean full of character, aka "ugly" in most people's eyes  ) older dogs at the shelter here that I just wanted to take home and snuggle for days to make them feel super loved. :D

I'm the same way with the kittehs though. There's this super huge 6 year old male cat named Royce at the shelter, and he kicks ASS! If I hadn't spotted the two polydactyl beasties and gotten attached to them before Royce came in, I would have taken him in a heartbeat. If I was made of money, I'd bring him home too, but I'm simply not. :( But he's GORGEOUS! He's a mix of tabby and siamese and he's got these gorgeous blue eyes and some of the neatest markings I've ever seen. The shelter people say that all of the older ladies that come in seeking a pet and just browsing look at him and just SWOON. I'm quite positive that he'll be getting a home soon. He looks very pampered. He's a big boy and they found him as a stray, so I think he had a home and was spoiled and simply ran away or got picked up. So perhaps his family will get him back before the elderly ladies scrap over him in the Humane Society parking lot. I'm just one of those people that wants to bring EVERYTHING home and honestly, two cats will be enough. But hey, I'm still that person to go to shelters and simply VISIT the pets. I used to do that in my old hometown and the shelter people here recognize me now because I just pop in from time to time.  I go around to shelters seeing if they need volunteers or anything of that sort because I just LOVE being around animals. :D

As for my beasties, I get to bring them home next friday. So one week before they are plastered all over this thread. I really truly wish I could bring the whole lot home and just be that crazy cat lady, but hey, maybe I'll do that when I'm 85.

Yeah, but that would cheapen my excitement and nobody would hear the story of Royce and the awesome dogs they have and everything else I mentioned.
