My Chair love only truly began when I heard "Straight Lines." That song knocked the wind out of me. When I found out who it was, I was all    . When they first came out, my little sis loved them along with every other grunge band at the time. I used to make fun of her and her friends for writing "silverchair" and "nirvana" all over their jeans and converse. When I realized silverchair were only 15, I was impressed. I didn't like the music, but I was still impressed by their accomplishments.

Sometime in college, I had some food issues and when you're in a situation like that, you seek out others that will understand. I was obsessed with all things ED-related. So, of course I heard about Daniel and the sick part of me was disappointed that he had recovered from his anorexia. I thought he was so beautiful. I obviously wasn't well because I was trying to acheive the same body type.

So, I was shocked that "Straight Lines" was a silverchair song. I started discovering their music, and fell in love hard! When I met Daniel it was so surreal that I was talking to the guy I used to make fun of my sister for liking. But, believe me, I sure get it from her now!

Okay, I have always sorta liked Silverchair. They were just a band that I listened too, and the way I liked them back say 2 years ago was how I like the Foo Fighters right now. Anyhow, Mum bought Dad Young Modern for his birthday, and I sat down to listen to it with Dad. I completely fell in love with Strange Behaviour and haven't looked back since :D

and I fell in love with Daniel when I was watching the video for IYKLS for the first time and i thought "Hey- that Daniel guy is pretty hot

A medal you say?

I reckon. I imagine sometimes what life was like before I got into Silverchair. Must have been boring haha.

Anyway, around Neon Ballroom era (when I first knew about Silverchair) I remember telling some family friends of ours how much I hated Silverchair, criticising Anthem for the Year 2000 and the band name. I didn't really become interested in popular music until 2001-02 as I mainly listened to The Beatles because my Dad is a big fan. Funnily enough, I became a huge Linkin Park fan from about 2002-2006.

I don't really remember hearing much Silverchair during 2002-03 (Maybe I saw TGV or ATN on TV). I remember when Something Down the Barrel video was on TV and I knew that the singer for The Dissociatives was the singer from Silverchair. I kinda liked this song at the time.

Then in 2006, I was getting really bored with the music I was listening to. In the build up week to the Arias they played The Greatest View on Channel V and I realised that I hadn't heard anything about Silverchair in 4 years or so, and I remembered how they were a pretty legendary band. I really liked TGV and it gave me a glimpse of how good this band was. Then they played an awesome cover at the Arias and I loved it! So from there I just downloaded a few of their songs, then bought a couple of albums, then more, then Young Modern came out. The End.

Yeah. Also, Silverchair changed the way I listen to all music. They definitely raised the bar for me. Pre-Silverchair, I was listening to really horrible mainstream crap. I learned a lot from them. :)

Same here. Well, I haven't been a fan of mainstream music for awhile now, but they definitely opened my mind up to new music I wouldn't have appreciated before. They also set my standards higher :D

I've only been a chair fan for about a full year now, and within that year I have seem them four times :D

I was always biased against Silverchair because they came out in the "Nirvana-era". When I was younger, I was very into pop music and shut all grunge, rock and alternative out. MY BAD! I would have heard about these guys sooner.

My bf is a big big big Silverchair buff, along with Nirvana and Local H. I remember the first song he played for me was "Across the Night". He told me to be open minded. I immediately fell in love with the song. Then I listened to "Tomorrow" and "Greatest View" and my bf gave me all the albums, and many many concert videos.

I became an instant fan. There is not one song that I dislike. Plus the fact that all the guys are gorgeous helps out too

also, Daniel Johns is a genious, and has been through so much. I admire people like him.

story

Postby Violet. » Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:58 am

I first heard Silverchair back when Frogstomp came out. I can remember me and my 2 female friends jumping around my living room listening to the album and playing air guitar, lol.

Once Freakshow came out my liking for them became stronger and I still wasnt a "fanatic" i guess you would call it, but i liked them a lot. I bought Neon Ballroom when it came out but didnt appreciate it much back then for some reason.... and then I lost track of them for a long long time.

About 2006 I was going through some major crap, i was so depressed and drinking way too much. I had so many emotions going on inside of me that I couldn't get a handle on. I developed Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia (which i'm still struggling with) and had severe insomnia and couldn't eat. I felt like I was loosing my mind.

One day I was going thru my cds and saw Neon Ballroom and thought to myself... i haven't listen to this for AGES, ill put it on. As soon as Emotion Sickness came on I was sold. I wished so badly i had paid attention to this album before. It brought me to a place where i could really feel what was going on and kind of understand it. I then went online to find out if they had done more stuff since then and found Diorama, listened to that and absolutely was head over heals. It helped me cope so much with what has going on inside me. Then Young Modern came out and I started to feel a sense of hope again, the upbeat sound of it just made me feel like I could pull thru anything.

So yeah, i've been a fan forever but didn't fall in love until 2 years ago. I thank the stars everyday that i decided to put on Neon Ballroom that day....

i was born in 89 and my brother is 6 years older than me and i thank god for that because he got me into a lot of stuff at a younger age that not a lot of young kids were able to get into.

i think it was a blessing but...he would always watch music channels with me in the room, my parents were never ones to restrict what i could watch so i was always on the same level as my brother.
i remember seeing the video for tomorrow when i was very young and i always loved music and always sang that song wherever i went, i fell in love with it, and my brother got me the cassette tape for it and it was all i would listen to.
eventually i strayed away because i was a girl and growing up and that cassette tape got pretty old and boring to me.

then in 1999...anthem for the year 2000 came out and i remembered those guys and i got really psyched that they were still making music cause they were off my radar for a while, and that was when i was in middle school and harassed and beaten up and made fun of for looking"gothic" and not "fitting in" i had nothing to rely on. when i saw the anthem for the year 2000 video i felt like i had found where i was meant to be, i needed to know those people, i needed that music to survive i just got that feeling.
i went out and bought neon ballroom with my brother soon after seeing that music video...and i remember i used to log onto AOL music to watch it over and over again on my parents AOL account. I was obsessed. I never looked back. I moved to a new town where my best friend was this exchange student from poland who was also a huge silverchair fan and all we did was hang out and rock out to the chair.
shortly after purchasing neon ballroom i went back to get frogstomp and freakshow...

im obsessed,
always have been
always will be.

silverchair saved my life and was the best thing to ever happen to me.
