i heard "too much of not enough" back right when diorama was released. i didn't buy diorama or get into them for 2 more years....but when i heard that one song i distinctly remember stopping in my tracks and being quite surprised at the level of sophistication in the songwriting...the unusual chords...all of it. it really blew me away at the time.

It was September of 1995 and I was in my first week of the 6th grade. My new cool skater friend kept telling me about this awesome band Silverchair, and that I needed to check them out.

I think a few days later I happened to catch them on tv, playing on the rooftop of Radio City Musical Hall for the VMA's. I was like "Holy shit, I'm almost their age." I became a huge fan.

It wasn't until I heard some of the experimental tracks on Freak Show that I thought Daniel had something really special about him, and that he may be a permanent stape in rock music.

Boy, was I right.
Predictability is the enemy of interesting.

I actually saw Dan, Ben, and Chris on an interview on MTV in 1995 before Frogstomp came out in the states. I fell in love with Dan at first sight  I only caught the tale end of the interview and they never said who they were or anything so I didn't even know the name of their band til I saw the Tomorrow video. I remember maybe a few days later I was flicking through and caught the tale end of the Tomorrow video and was like OMG that's the guy I'm in love with lol I was only 15 so bite me  Then I finally heard the whole song one day and loved it, bought their album when it came out and have been obsessed ever since!
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me...

I looked at the CDs they had at the "listening station" (anyone besides me remember when they had those?) and I saw that strange little green frog on the cover. I had absolutely no idea who Silverchair was but something made me give it a go.

I listened to Israel's Son and that was it. I got it on the spot. I liked a few of those songs a lot, but didn't think it was a masterpiece or anything. I did however think that I should keep my eye on Dan's writing ability (as well as their musicianship.) By Freak Show, with songs like Cemetery and Petrol & Chlorine, I could tell Dan was headed in a much more compositional, artistic direction. But I still wasn't amazed. But when Neon Ballroom came out and I heard Emotion Sickness, I realized I was listening to a budding genius.

By the time Diorama came out, I knew what he could do, but still wasn't prepared for the brilliance of that album.

At this point, I've learned not to doubt Dan's writing talent and even though I think YM could have been better, I know what he is capable of - and I look forward to every album Silverchair comes out with from now on.

i just want to say that i'm in love with you  that's all! :P

Um.. golly... thanks!

Summer of 1995.....I was 13, growing up in Seattle, and was very heavily into GRUNGE! Yeah! Flannel and shit!

Well, Seattle basically adopted silverchair (their first show in Sea-town sold out in like 2 minutes and I totally missed out!) and I've kept up with them since. Its crazy to think that this band has been such a HUGE part of over half of my life! :o

They've been my favorite band since 1995, when "Tomorrow" came out in the US. I can tell you an exact date if you want me to be creepy. Do you? Alright! August 16, 1995. Because my best friend Ann and I were shopping at the mall for back to school clothes and I heard the song eight times in four hours. Eight times! And I loved it and ever since, they've been the greatest.

Oh, let me add that when I first saw the video, I thought Daniel was Asian. Because at one point he flips his hair up and squints while singing and I thought...you get it. That isn't meant to be racist I was just a kid! I was so in love with him.

It wasn’t a case of love at first sight/listen for me. I heard Tomorrow and Pure Massacre and didn’t pay much attention.

But then my sis got Frogstomp for her birthday, and a friend of mine was really into them and was always watching the video of them live at The Cambridge Hotel back in 94 or 95 I think it was.

After that I was hooked. I loved Frogstomp and thought Daniel Johns was the best looking boy my 12 year old eyes had ever seen.
