^^read that article yesterday, and the writing on it is just pure CRAP. Doesn't even have a proper author. "Staff writer". Nice. Someone in the comments called it "gutter journalism" and I'm going to agree. It's like they used the worst picture they caught of him and then just wrote up some cheap words to go with it. Like they really had any idea what he was "toasting" unless he invited them to be a part of the pub crawl. :lol:

I just wanted to say that over the majority of my teen years I spent time with you all chatting to you all about our favourite band silverchair. At one time I was even a moderator here at chairpage. I wish everyone I know here the best. I'm sorry I have been busy with renovations and teaching than being on here as often as i used to be. A little late here.....still don't think I've fully processed the news yet

Honestly I didn't see this coming at all. It hadn't been 5 years yet since YM, so I wasn't worried The fact that they actually called it this time in the middle of what appeared to be a regular dormant phase really caught me off guard. I was looking foward to the next album and for the next phase of 'chair fandom. I will miss the excitement of these boards and will always remember the good old days of silverchat. I'll miss running home to write up a Road Report detailing every second of the show I had just experienced. I'll miss the road trips and hanging out with my old school 'chairhead friends who I never see otherwise. I'll miss the hallelujahs and koala jokes. Gah I will fucking miss everything!!!

Been a fan for over half my life. 11 shows over the past 16 years. A good chunk of my life has revolved around this band and I don't regret a single minute.

Thanks for the ride, silverchair. You brightened my life like a polysterene hat

The dude deserves far more credit than his career with SC has equaled to.... except for the whole Wes Carr thing!!

I hope they get back one day, I'm not so down about this for 2 reasons:

1) I USED TO BE A HUGE FAN, nowadays I'm a fan. They're one of my favourite bands within at least 10 other bands, I love their music but I'm not always into them.

2) Daniel Johns is still writing music and since he was the songwriter of Silverchair I'll still have new stuff from him.

i just read the sad new , and like most of you i have grown up listening to silverchair alot and i always looked forward to hearing there new sounds ...i was kinda seeing it coming but i thought okay , maybe one last album before they called it quits....didnt get to hear their new tracks that everyone talking about but just incase maybe they read this page like they claim too , hears a thought how bout a farewell tour? i mean hit the states too their are people out there that have supported them since they started , bought their cds , tshirts , hung their posters whatever we all did something to show our support and i have been a fan since i was 12 so c'mon this is bs completely !i sheaded a tear like i had lost a friend even tho i have never met them , they were a huge part of my life and why i love so many different types of music ... rip silverchair what a bummer its ashame i was holding my breathe for one last chance to see them because silly me missed them last time they came to philly but yet i do understand 20 years is along time but i will wish them luck ...even tho i believe that chick daniel's with had something to do with them breakin up ..idk just me i guess

I'm not sure what made me want to come back here today, but I'm glad I did because I got to read some goodbye letters from some of my favorite people on here. It really was touching to see how much the band has influenced each one of us, and how we came together and formed our own little private commune to celebrate them on a daily basis. Honestly, the saddest part of the band's hiatus for me is that this forum is possibly dead for good. I was really looking forward to the next album and a revival of this community. It was so awesome getting to know so many of you...and I'm happy for the invention of facebook so I can still keep in touch with my favorites There were some real shitheads on here too, but fortunately they were the minority LOL
Silverchair will always be one of my all-time favorite bands. They led me to so many other types of music that I never would have discovered and appreciated on my own. And some of the songs that they wrote are....timeless. They are so beautiful and complex that they will never go out of style for me.
I worry about Mr. Johns. I really hope he's not heading down a path of destruction by boozing and drugging it up. That stuff is all fine and dandy (and a hell of a lot of fun) in moderation, but it's a slippery slope. It would be a damn shame to watch him ruin his talent and life like so many other legends in the industry. Be careful, Daniel and please continue to share your extraordinary gift with us!!!

Wow I'm quite behind! I guess thats what happens after waiting so long for news and not really expecting any... I stopped coming around here so often....

The news of the split are partly surprising and partly not. Long breaks among any band always make me a little iffy. But who knows, maybe one day down the road they will get inspired to record another album together again, like what happened after Wave Aid....

Although I'm bummed to think that I wont be hearing any Silverchair material anytime soon, I'm happy all the boys are doing something they love.. even if its seperately. The new stuff Dan is doing with the film sounds amazing, I'm excited to hear Ben's upcoming album, and Chris is out there doing charity work and whatnot which is great.

Its a shame Chairpage will be going down too... but I guess it makes sense to close up shop. Oh whatever will I do without the SS thread!!!??! I dont spend too much time here anymore but I will definitely still miss this place.

Thank you Silverchair for all the amazing memories & hard times your music has got me through and thanks to all you forum members for the memories, laughs, pictures that leave me going , and fiery discussions.
