Prediction: Silverchair scrap plans for album #6

Postby DawnOfANewTime » Sun Apr 03, 2011 4:30 am

I remember when some months went by without hearing any news on the band and I predicted that the album came to a hault and everyone was in disbelief, but now I think it's safe to say the band have stopped working on the album.

My new prediction is that they have altogether scrapped plans for a new album and are not doing any work on it right now, at least not until Daniel has that film project behind him and can muster up some songs he feels confident in.

Here's what I think went wrong: Groovin' The Moo.

I only say this because prior to the GTM shows, the band was beaming with confidence and saying things like "we like this better than the last album" and that they had 50 songs. Then the GTM shows happen and there is a drastic reaction to their material, both from fans and media critics. Not that they haven't endured criticism for a change in sonic direction before, but this time the nature of the criticism I feel was a lot more serious. I mean, some people went out to even say that Daniel wasn't even writing quality songs anymore!

Immediately following GTM was silence, which has continued for almost a whole year now! And we haven't received any news from chairpage or the LAS on this other than 'we still don't have any definite news on a new album', whereas prior to GTM, there were updates at least every couple of months with something along the lines of "Silverchair is working on new music in the studio, here are some videos, they are doing more writing, Daniel is traveling to write, they are in the studio, they are doing some shows, etc..." and now...nothing. Even Ben Gillies' twitter updates are far from resembling a musician working with his band on some music. Silverchar are definitely not even rehearsing.

I believe the band has scrapped plans for album #6 indefinitely until further notice. And with rumors about Daniel Johns' health running rampid, that could factor into the length of time it takes until we see some more progress. Sadly, I'm wondering how many (if any?) albums this amazing band has left.

Please guys/management, give us some news with substance! People are concerned.

What so they scrapped the album because people didn't react well to 2 out of the 50 songs written? Pretty fucking stupid post i must say.

Oh and the first 2 new songs we heard before diorama was released were hollywood and one way mule, shit songs but in no way did they end up representing the way diorama sounded. The album was a masterpiece

Yeah I think it's really important we remember this. The same happened with the first Young Modern songs they played live at that secret show - sounded nothing like the album ended up sounding.

And anyway, was there actually a drastic reaction against the new songs at GTM? People keep saying there was but that's really not how I remember it. If you watch the videos from the shows, the crowd reaction was really good - especially considering it's a festival crowd and they're generally not interested in hearing anything they don't already know.

I take that as a personnel insult saying Hollywood is shit! Yes, and I do mean personnel...the people who work for me are insulted as well.

I think the central point of this whole issue stems from the fact they've not been hugely communicative.

But hey. Ben has a twitter account. Maybe someone can dig the details out from him. I'll give a quarter to anyone that can.

Hollywood and One Way Mule were the highlights of Rock in Rio! And the falsetto version of Freak!

Anyway, I gotta agree with Dawn. The lack of communication has been pretty extreme since GTM. It's also really strange that no information has been leaked re. the status of the album. Hardly even any rumors.
Silverchair take a while to release albums, but 4 years with nothing inbetween (not even dissacociatives)... I just hope everyone in the band is ok. I'd say either silverchair will split or we may get an album next year :(

i think its safe to say there isn't going to be a new album this year. saying that we have waited this long whats another year!

perhaps if they are unsure of their sound or direction they could release a stand alone single to test the waters, then if theyre not happy with it it doesn't really matter because its just a stand alone single. it would be cool if they maybe released a few ep's or something like bands used to do years ago.

in the mean time it would be cool if they released something else chair related, like a live cd or a new bsides comp or something. or even the young modern demos officially. lol. just to tide us over!

Good post, very true. Unfortunately though, if it were the case it would be proof that they've lost all integrity and rather just write music that is more likely to sell. I personally think the new songs are 10x better than YM, you all know how much YM disappointed me, but this time I love the change in style and the music just seems more inventive and a step forward. If they abandoned this music for something lighter and sellable I'd be pretty pissed off... bring on Machina

Perhaps with the film project however, we'll just get a soundtrack album instead or something, a solo release from Daniel with all the songs/scores in the film... would be pretty cool, sort of like the YM demos

Yeah, I really liked Machina Collecta, and I think 16 has a lot of potential.

I really wish they'd touch base with us. I don't why they've just left us hanging, and up and disappeared like a fart in the wind.

Wait? You smell that?...

Oh, it must be Silverchair. Cause they're the shit. 8)

Thank god ur not all fucking silverdicksuckers.... Im surprised all the fangirls havent flammed you..
Anyway, I think theyve stopped too, ben gillies and chris are constantly out in australia, by the sounds of things louise is taking care of daniel in his home because he hasnt left it in 3 months (papparazzi evidence though) and by the sounds of band management, theyre letting it drift, something must be up, not even an update on the film score, these are darker days than Neon Ballroom!
Im in concern and lets hope they come out with an announcement soon.

I am in fact quite fangirlie. And yup, I get into arguments because of them (or whatever other band I'm a fan of)... Quite irrational really, but it comes out of passion so, can't be blamed I guess. I just don't answer the threads that make me mad, so...

Anyways, this lack of news is just sad. I kinda feel like an abandoned child   "Mom and Dad forgot about me and went on vacations in some unknown location

i hope this is something to be excited about! on ben's twitter today, he said "Good morning world. It's gonna be a good day today!! Some music... Yes please!" and 5 hrs later "For some reason I keep coming up with ideas that sound like there from the 80's" wonder if he's with the band or just goofing off alone??

edit: since the he's FINALLY posted.... "Shout out to all Silverchair Fans!!! Thanks for all of the great support"
