The less spoken about songs.

Postby Middle Class Sam » Mon Jun 16, 2008 6:25 am

Well I noticed today, that off Young Modern I seem to like the less talked about songs on Young Modern. I think Straight Lines is overrated, The novelty of Mind Reader wore off and that Waiting All Day is forgettable.

So this a thread for the real gems on Young Modern, that include:

- Those Thieving Birds
- The Man That Knew Too Much
- Not Insomnia, cos that song doesn't deserve to be talked about
- All Across The World
- English Garden

i love aatw, coz that's just the typical dan sound. when i first heard this song before the record came out, i thought the album was going to be their best ...

ttb - when i heard that song i wished dan would sit down and write a score, coz i know he can do it! :)

I like Straight Lines, but it's far from my favorite. I'm surprised it got the most attention out of all of them actually
but I disagree on Insomnia (particularly on ATGD), I think it's amazing, and I pretty much love all the other songs on the album with the exception of Sleep All Day (and yes, it did come on the album on itunes in the States so don't even say it! lol), and ROAS is so-so

I still like Straight Lines. I like it lyrically more than anything. After being a fan for like 13 years and knowing all the shit that Daniel went through, it just makes me feel good knowing that he got through it and I think the lyrics fit perfectly.

Insomnia is still weird to me. Sometimes I love it and other times I could do without it. Live version is definitely better.

TMTKTM is just fun to sing along to. And it reminds me of summer.

I like AATW because every time I listen to it I come up with a different version of what I think a video for that song would look like.

All of the B sides are unreal.

And TTB/SB/TTB is amazing. :D

ttb/sb -- probably my most fav song on the album (toss up between this and mind reader)

i'm growing particularly fond of low recently. i dig the country line dance feel. (though at first it gave me a chuckle)

sleep all day is another one at the top for me too

Yeah, I love English Garden! Its just that that female singer ruins it a little bit.

I feel the same way about insomnia as you, too. Although it's much better live.

I think TMTKTM is probably the best song on YM.

i have to say at first i was not that big of a fan of straight lines and it sounded to me like he was yelling the chorus but now it's one of my favorite songs off the album...not sure what happened to change my mind but it did

i don't really have anything bad to say about any of the songs on young modern or the b-sides...i thoroughly enjoy every song however when i first heard 'all across the world' i thought the lyrics were "just to shake your hand i'm wasting my time" and i remember thinking you arrogant prick and it made me dislike the song for a bit before i read the actual lyrics

Don't forget the least most interesting album opener, Young Modern Station :D I'd usually skip it unless I'd like to hear how Silverchair would be now if they play a bit more heavier :D

Straight Lines is a good song for me, it's still one of my most played songs from YM.

I think they wasted that track space with Insomnia. They should have included one of the B-Sides songs instead.

Barbarella and Sleep All Day have got to be the best B-sides from YM...although We're Not Lonly But We Miss you is kick ass too. I like English Garden...but, yeah, I agree, the female singer in the middle of it kinda ruins it...it's like... ...who the hell is that???

Barbarella makes me want to dress up like Disco Stu and hit the town screaming "Yeah, Baby!!"

I LOVE YMS. It always lifts my spirits, especially the line "The band is back together". The line "Dead Dali days behind us" is pretty awesome too. I think it's a fantastic show opener as well. Really gets the crowd goin.
