Beat on the Brats, Silverchair are Back in America
Music News of the World
November 25, 1995

The brats from Silverchair are at it again. They didn't take the news of the cancellation of the Red Hot Chili Peppers tour lying down. Instead, they quickly strung together a scaled-down tour and are currently performing their Aussie grunge in the great state of California and points east. On their first stop Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies, and Chris Joannou were shuttled three hours out of Los Angeles to a place called Soggy Dry Creek, near Victorville, California for a photo shoot -- the photog going for the surreal desert moonscape effect. After the shoot was over, the three little silverchairs piled into the mini-van and took off without supervision. No, they don't have their drivers licenses yet (although the just-sixteen Chris does have his learner's permit), but that didn't stop them. They peeled out, leaving onlookers, publicists and their long-suffering manager eating their dust. They later boasted that they got the van's speed up to over 100 mph in the dry creek bed, and seemed very pleased with themselves. That was until manager John Watson threatened to tell their parental units. This time their fathers are accompanying them on tour -- as you remember last time it was the moms who refused to let them party with Unwritten Law, the band that opened up for them in Los Angeles.
